Supporting Infants in Foster Care

Giving children with troubled beginnings the power to thrive.

rough beginnings

Newborns placed into foster care are at high risk for health, developmental, and emotional challenges. They come from households contending with substance abuse, violence, and economic hardship. They all experience trauma. At Three Starlings Foundation, we hope to build and nurture solid foundations for these babies so they can go on to thrive in stable, loving homes.

Let’s give them the welcome they deserve.

Bundles of Joy

Babies in foster care go through many transitions. Because of difficult circumstances and the fact that they have special care needs, it is important to ensure that the households in which they reside are ideally equipped. Bundles of Joy are specially prepared parcels containing infant care items, such as diapers, clothing, strollers, and bottles, as well as keepsakes, such as photo books and knitted blankets. The bundles are created to assist caregivers in need. But perhaps more importantly, they are also designed to help these children, who are born into dire circumstances, to feel welcomed and treasured.

A $250 donation allows us to provide a complete bundle for a needy infant.

Corporate sponsorship and in-kind donations of infant care products are appreciated. Specialty, hand-made items for babies are welcomed. Please contact us at threestarlingsfoundation@gmail.com for more information.

Older kids need help, too.

Mind the Gap

Children entering foster care often arrive with only the clothes on their backs. Unfortunately, in our County, foster care stipends do not arrive until at least 45 days after a new foster placement has begun. For children entering economically vulnerable households, this can mean waiting weeks for clothing or basic care items. This is the “gap” we find unacceptable:   Lack of proper clothing is tied to poor mental and physical health outcomes. But it is also a matter of self-esteem.

Mind the Gap is our latest initiative to support vulnerable children. Let’s help them to thrive, by making sure they are properly outfitted immediately when they enter foster care. County social workers are helping us to identify extraordinary situations in which there is a vital need for clothing assistance for children in foster care, during the critical first 45 days of placement.

A $500 donation allows us to provide a complete wardrobe for a vulnerable child in foster care. Please help us close the gap.

These children and their caregivers have high need levels, but unfortunately there are not always sufficient resources to ensure a safe and healthy path forward for them.

Please help us close the gap.
